New 2010 Hyundai Tucson:
The first version of the all-new Hyundai Tucson has been revealed for its Korean home market, demonstrating swoopy new styling and a new engine. Depending on market, the new model will be known as either the Tucson ix, the ix35, or simply as the 2010 Tucson. There also seems to be variations on the front bumper design. While details are still scarce, the new model will come with a new 166 hp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed automatic, with a choice of front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. Available features in some markets will include a panoramic sunroof, rear camera, downhill brake control, hill-start assist, stability control and even automatic hazard lights for panic stops. Expected to debut in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries by the end of the year, most of the safety features will likely be removed in the GCC version to keep prices low.

Current Hyundai Tucson has been on sale since 2005 and surely isn’t a looker, thankfully all latest models such as Genesis Sedan and Coupe are very well designed. Genesis Sedan even won the North American Car of the Year award. We have already brought you spy shots of the heavily disguised next-generation Hyundai Tucson from Northern Sweden. To make things interesting our designer Alexandr drew two renderings based on these latest spy shots. Compared to the current Tucson the new model will be more aerodynamic and sportier. The car rendered is shorter than the actual prototypes spotted in Sweden. We are quite sure that the prototypes have a fake rear and the production model will have a shorter roof line. Engine wise the next-generation Tucson will lose the V6 and will be offered only with four-cylinder engines. Addition to the current range will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with around 200 hp. In Europe turbocharged diesels will be also offered. Rumor is that soon after the launch a hybrid version will also be offered.

First shown as a concept way back in 2005 at the Chicago Auto Show, the Hyundai Portico crossover SUV is still yet to reach showrooms, although it may arrive sooner rather than later as a replacement for the Tucson The Tucson nameplate may yet live on as the production spec Portico, but one thing for certain is that the new generation model will be radically different from the current version. These artists renderings give us an idea of just how radically different the new Tucson should be, arriving essentially as an all-new model by mid-2010 Unlike most crossover SUVs, the new Tucson should have enough seating for six passengers, powered exclusively by a range of diesel and petrol four-cylinder engines in both naturally-aspirated and turbocharged guise. Production for Hyundai’s home market of Korea is expected to begin by the end of 2009.
